Who the Original is for

Airflow and 16cm springs — why this is not all-foam heat

The clever bit is two things stacked. OTTY punches many small holes through the foam layers and calls it Airflow. Then they sit those foams on pocket springs that are 16cm tall — taller than a lot of boxed-hybrid coil units — so there is a real air gap around steel. All-foam has nowhere for heat to go except out through the cover and into you. A hybrid with a short coil and a thick closed-cell pad is only slightly less of a swamp. Original’s argument is: perforate the polymer, then give the air somewhere to travel.

I can tell the difference in ten seconds. Press Original and the coil heads answer after the foam. Press a dense all-foam and your hand comes back late with nowhere for the warmth to dump. We give it 4.4/5. The missing points are not rounding errors.

1. The trial is 100 nights, not 200. Eve and Simba still sell 200 on their own 25cm hybrids. OTTY collect and refund on their terms if you buy direct, and they want about 30 nights first. That is a real purchase. It is a shorter safety net. If the paperwork is the product, open Eve Original Hybrid or Simba Hybrid and pay their from-prices. Do not pretend 100 equals 200 because both numbers have “night” in them.
2. 7/10 is not extra firm, and hybrid does not mean hard. David Patel at 104kg / 16st 5lb on his back wanted 9/10 and expected the spring unit to deliver it. OTTY market Extra Firm at 15st+; 16st 5lb sits inside that range. Original’s 16cm coils give bounce and an air gap. They do not turn a medium-firm comfort stack into Extra Firm. 3. The cover is dry-clean, not a washing-machine party trick. OTTY’s thick knit is removable for dry cleaning. Aura’s cover is the 40°C wash. Ice’s cover is the machine-washable cooling option on this stack — still not a seventh mattress. Charcoal foam lives on Pure. If you bought Original because you wanted a washable lid, or because you wanted charcoal, you bought the flagship for the wrong feature.

OTTY’s live layer tour is a six-part hybrid: thick knit, memory foam, reflex foam, 16cm encapsulated pocket springs, side support, high-density base. The Airflow story sits in the foam perforations and the edge, not as a seventh foam you can peel off. Rotate; do not flip. OTTY does not print a country of origin for this boxed hybrid — Natural Origin and Natural Evolve are the handmade UK line, a different range.

Depth is 25cm on the live picker, including EU and Emperor. If your bunk has a hard cap, measure the expanded mattress. Do not trust a blog that borrowed Aura’s 23cm or Pure+’s 28cm. CertiPUR and Europur are OTTY’s foam claims. FIRA is the BS7177 fire house they cite. Those are certifications, not a cooling score.

Firmness: 7/10 depends who sits down

OTTY prints medium-firm 7/10 on this 25cm flagship. For Sarah Mitchell at 62kg / 9st 11lb on her side, that was plenty — a bit firm at the shoulder. For Emma Thompson at 71kg / 11st 2lb, hot sleeper, side-dominant, a shoulder in with a floor. Unboxing and the first week

There are coils, so you may hear a tick as they find their height. Wait until it is roughly full 25cm before fighting fitted sheets. OTTY recommend about 30 nights before you treat the trial as a verdict. That is longer than a long weekend and shorter than Eve’s 200.

Bed base and sheets

OTTY like slatted bases because air can move underneath. Keep gaps around 7cm or less — the same rule every UK boxed brand repeats, because a wide gap lets the high-density base sag between bars. A solid platform or a decent divan is fine. They will not guarantee thin steel frames. A tired sprung base will make Original feel cheaper than it is. Floor use is a last resort for a week, not a five-year plan.

Sheets: 25cm on every size. Ordinary 25cm fitted sheets usually stay on after expansion. Extra-deep 30–35cm pockets help if you add a protector. Emperor (200 × 200cm) needs Emperor linen, not a hopeful super king. Add a protector for the trial; do not glue it down.
