    Why Trust Our Reviews?

Unlike many comparison sites that simply repackage manufacturer claims, we actually test every mattress we review. Our methodology combines hands-on studio assessments with extended real-world sleep trials by diverse testers.

We purchase mattresses ourselves—no freebies, no manufacturer influence. Our ratings reflect genuine performance, not advertising spend.

    Who actually sleeps on them

Named testers, published kilograms. The panel spans 62kg to 104kg — a 42kg gap — because a mattress that cradles a 62kg side sleeper can become a crater under a 104kg back sleeper. James Wright is the lead reviewer at 86kg. He is not the heavy tester. David Patel is.

Every single-mattress review on this site uses these five bodies. Scores disagree on purpose. If you weigh near 104kg, read David first. If you weigh near 62kg and sleep on your side, read Sarah first.

    Real Sleeper Trials

Extended home testing by our diverse panel of UK sleepers

This is where the real testing happens. Our panel of testers represents UK sleepers of various ages, body types, and sleep preferences — from Sarah Mitchell at 62kg / 9st 11lb (side sleeper) to David Patel at 104kg / 16st 5lb (back sleeper). James Wright, the lead reviewer, is 86kg and is not the heavy tester. Each tester sleeps on mattresses for a minimum of 30 nights in their own home, recording comfort levels, pain points, and sleep quality using detailed surveys. Real bedrooms, real conditions, real feedback. Scores disagree on purpose when a 42kg weight gap is on the same surface.

    Tests Performed:

    • 30-night minimum home sleep trials
    • Diverse body type panel testing
    • Morning pain and stiffness surveys
    • Sleep quality tracking and feedback
    25% weight

    Firmness & Support Assessment

Hands-on evaluation of comfort levels and spinal support

In our testing studio, we assess firmness through hands-on testing across all sleep positions. We photograph spinal alignment with reference markers to show how different body types are supported. This practical approach helps match mattresses to sleep positions and body types.

    Tests Performed:

    • Firmness scale testing across sleep positions
    • Spinal alignment photography
    • Support consistency across surface
    • Edge support evaluation
    15% weight

    Pressure Point Analysis

Evaluating how mattresses cushion shoulders, hips, and joints

We test pressure relief by having testers of different body types lie in various positions, noting where pressure builds and where cushioning is effective. Side sleepers focus on hip and shoulder comfort, while back sleepers assess lumbar support. This real-world approach reveals issues that pure data might miss.

    Tests Performed:

    • Shoulder and hip pressure point testing
    • Multiple sleep position assessment
    • Body type variation testing
    • Comfort layer depth evaluation
    10% weight

    Temperature Regulation Testing

Assessing how well mattresses sleep cool throughout the night

Our testers include several people who run hot at night—they're particularly valuable for identifying mattresses that trap heat. We collect feedback on overheating, night sweats, and overall temperature comfort across multiple nights of testing.

    Tests Performed:

    • Overnight temperature feedback from testers
    • Surface breathability assessment
    • Hot sleeper panel testing
    • Cover material evaluation
    10% weight

    Motion Transfer Assessment

Testing how movement on one side affects a sleeping partner

We have couples test mattresses together, with one partner moving, getting up, and changing positions while the other notes disturbance. This practical test reveals how well a mattress isolates movement—crucial for light sleepers sharing a bed.

    Tests Performed:

    • Partner disturbance testing
    • Mattress movement observation
    • Getting in/out of bed assessment
    • Couple feedback collection
    5% weight

    Construction & Durability Review

Examining build quality and predicting long-term performance

We examine each mattress's construction, materials, and build quality. We assess edge support, check foam densities where disclosed, and evaluate overall craftsmanship. Combined with warranty terms and our experience, we estimate how well each mattress will hold up over years of use.

    Tests Performed:

    • Material and construction inspection
    • Edge compression testing
    • Foam and spring quality assessment
    • Manufacturer warranty review

    Frequently Asked Questions

How long do you test each mattress?

Each mattress undergoes a minimum of 30 nights of real-world testing by our panel in their own homes. We also conduct initial studio assessments for firmness, construction quality, and detailed photography before sending mattresses to home testers.

Do you accept free mattresses from brands?

No. We purchase all mattresses ourselves at retail prices. This ensures complete independence—our ratings reflect genuine performance, not manufacturer relationships.

How do you make money if you don't accept payment?

We earn affiliate commissions when readers purchase through our links. Importantly, this happens after we've completed our testing. Commissions never influence our ratings, rankings, or recommendations.

    Who are your testers?

Our panel includes testers representing diverse body types, ages, and sleep positions. We specifically include hot sleepers, people with back pain, light sleepers, and couples—so we can provide relevant feedback for different needs.

How often do you update your reviews?

We continuously monitor for model updates, price changes, and user feedback. Major reviews are refreshed annually, with rating adjustments made whenever significant changes occur.
