If you want one Eve hybrid and you are a fairly typical UK sleeper — mixed positions, a 3ft, 4ft6 or 5ft frame, willing to wait for a sale — start here. I score it 4.3/5 because the job is “would I put this on a Sheffield king I actually sleep on?” not “does Eve have a taller model.” I am 86kg / 13st 8lb; that is a household-average body, not David’s 104kg / 16st 5lb night. Eve’s shop showed it from £699 including VAT when we checked on 19 August 2026. T3 called it a budget pick in 2026; that is their view, not ours. Emma Original is usually cheaper if you wanted a slower hug. Simba Hybrid is the bounce-on-top rival at a similar from-price.

It is not automatically the best Eve. David Patel at 104kg / 16st 5lb is right about Premium Hybrid if you already know you want more coils under the hips and the graphite stack. Foam Original is the one to buy for a small double or if you want all foam. Wunderflip is a two-person unzip, not a free upgrade. The missing points on our score are ordinary edges, foam-on-top warmth in a sealed terrace, a missing small double, and a ticket that still sits above Emma’s volume seller.

Bottom line: typical household that liked Eve foam and wanted to turn, wait for the sale, use the 200 nights. Four-foot frame, plank-and-coil specialist, or memory-foam hugger staring at an Emma discount — walk.

Who the Original Hybrid is for

The clever bit: 12cm coils under the foam, not Simba springs on top

Most people hear “hybrid” and picture the same sandwich. It is not. Simba’s volume seller puts short Aerocoil microsprings high in the stack, just under a foam comfort layer, so the first thing you feel is bounce and a bit of pumped air. Eve does the older, taller-coil job on this mattress: a moisture-wicking cover, then EveComfort (the springy foam Eve built the brand on), then a memory layer that still hugs a shoulder, then a support foam that protects the unit and helps the sides, then more than 800 full-size 12cm pocket springs. Under those, a reinforced edge and another 3.5cm of foam so the core is not sitting on a dust sheet.

That order is the review. You sink into Eve foam first. The 12cm coils meet you afterwards, each in its own pocket, so a hip does not drag a shoulder into a hammock. The bounce is there — Sarah Mitchell at 62kg / 9st 11lb turned without a press-up — but it is bounce under the hug, not a hotel surface that never lets you in. If you wanted Simba’s “I am sleeping on springs” night, you will call this slower. If you wanted Eve’s contour and still hated feeling stuck on foam Original, this is the mechanism, not a Which? banner. Premium Hybrid uses the same 12cm idea with 1,400+ coils and graphite Floatfoam. David Patel at 104kg / 16st 5lb counted that with his back, not with a brochure.

That same stack is why 62kg and 104kg cannot share a verdict. The case against the Original Hybrid

We give it 4.3/5. The missing points are not rounding errors.

1. David already wanted Premium Hybrid, and 800 coils will not become 1,400 in the box. Same 12cm full-size idea, different count, different height, graphite Floatfoam on the dearer model. David Patel at 104kg / 16st 5lb sat up, wanted more stop, and left. If you sit on the edge every morning or you already thought this felt light under the hips, paying for Original Hybrid and hoping the 10-year document grows extra springs is how you pay twice.
2. There is no small double, and the bounce is not Simba’s. A 4ft frame is a foam Original problem, or a different brand. Separately: if you walked in wanting Aerocoil near the sleep surface — turn, recover, hotel-on-top — this hug-then-coil stack will feel slow. That is architecture, not a cover colour. Read the Simba Hybrid review before you pay Eve for a night they did not build.
3. You still pay more than Emma’s volume seller, and the foam on top still holds heat. Emma Original is usually the cheaper 25cm hybrid. Eve’s ticket is the hug-plus-turn and the Bensons network, not a free upgrade. In a sealed Sheffield bedroom in late August I stayed on this bed; I still kicked a 10.5 tog. Pocket springs under foam move some air. They do not air-condition a terrace.

Eve’s live UK layer tour on this product page is cover, EveComfort, memory, support foam, the pocket-spring unit, a reinforced edge, an extra 3.5cm foam, then the side and base fabric. There is no graphite Floatfoam on this mattress — that comfort story starts at Premium Hybrid. There is no second spring count. Foam Original is the three-layer bed with no coils. Trust the 2026 Original Hybrid diagram on Eve’s shop, not an old blog that mixed the models.

Versus foam Original, you pay for height, coils, the edge, and the extra foam. Versus Premium Hybrid, you are missing graphite Floatfoam, about 3cm, and 600-odd springs — that extra coil count is what David at 104kg / 16st 5lb wanted under the hips.

Firmness: medium-firm means hug, then stop

Eve prints medium-firm on Original Hybrid, foam Original and Premium Hybrid alike. I would not sell this as a cloud, and I would not sell it as a physiotherapy plank. You land, EveComfort and memory give, the 12cm pockets push back, the extra foam and the edge say stop. Our testers sat around 6.5/10 and then argued about coil count and heat, not about sinking into a crater.

Body weight is not a vibe. It is how far you travel through the comfort layer before the core holds you. Sarah at 62kg / 9st 11lb often needs a softer top so her shoulder can drop. David at 104kg / 16st 5lb often needs that same top to stop sooner, or his hips make a hammock. James at 86kg / 13st 8lb sits between them — useful as a typical UK male, useless as a stand-in for a 104kg back sleeper. Cooling, couples, edges

Cooling: breathable EveComfort, a moisture-wicking cover, and 12cm pockets that let air move through the core. I slept a late-August Sheffield night on a 10.5 tog at 86kg / 13st 8lb. Emma Thompson at 71kg / 11st 2lb, our hot sleeper, still felt the memory layer hold warmth the way memory foam does. Eve’s page says it sleeps cooler; I would not file that as a probe result. Open a window. Simba’s springs-on-top stack still felt airier on the nights we have used both.

Motion: Rachel Adams at 68kg / 10st 10lb — “OK,” not a percentage. Full-size pockets isolate better than a cheap open coil. Foam on top dulls a sit. You will still feel a partner get up. If one of you does nights, try the real shift, not a Saturday lie-in, and remember a party wall is architecture. A 42kg couple gap (Sarah at 62kg, David at 104kg) is the same problem in two directions: she keeps the hug, he wants more coils.

Edges: reinforced, and better than a foam-only Original for sitting. Lying near the side is usable. Sitting to dress is where David at 104kg / 16st 5lb left for Premium Hybrid. Share a double and you live closer to that perimeter than on a king — trial it properly. A single sleeper on a single size uses even more edge; that is still a reason this model exists in a 3ft.

Unboxing and the first week

Original Hybrid arrives boxed and vacuum-sealed, which is how a king gets up a Sheffield two-up-two-down stair at all. Treat unboxing and later rotations as a two-person job. Cut the wrap on the base. Foam Original is the lighter, thinner lift. This is not that.

Eve says it expands to full size within a few hours. Give it 24 hours anyway before you decide it is “too firm” or “too warm,” and before you wrestle 30cm sheets onto the corners. A new-foam smell is normal for a couple of days; we opened the sash. I would not return it after three restless nights unless something is clearly defective. Old mattress removal is a Bensons/Eve checkout extra, not a default white-glove crew.

Bed base and sheets

A solid platform, a decent divan, or slats that are not a climbing frame. Wide gaps let any foam-and-spring stack sag between the bars and will not do a 10-year warranty any favours. An old hammock sprung base is part of the feel — fix the base first. You can often lie on an Eve in Bensons; your home slats still decide the long trial.

Depth is 25cm. Standard 25cm hotel sheets are tight with a protector; a 30–35cm pocket is the sensible UK buy. You are not yet on Premium Hybrid’s 28cm climb. Leftover deep sheets from a 27cm mattress will still work. A protector is wise during the 200 nights.
