Foam is not a slogan. Density is how much polymer sits in a cubic metre. Zone mapping is how that density is arranged so a hip does not fall through the same pad that is supposed to let a shoulder in. Eve Original is three foam layers, a cover, and an anti-slip base. The support slab is a 7-zone denser foam, not a pocket-spring unit. If you came here expecting a spring breakdown, you wanted Original Hybrid.
I pressed the comfort stack with a thumb, then slept on the full mattress. I am 86kg / 13st 8lb — heavy enough to load the EveComfort pad, not heavy enough to punch through it the way a 104kg back sleeper does. EveComfort is open-cell — it recovers faster than old closed-cell memory. The memory pad on top of it is thinner than the 2014 “you will drown by Tuesday” recipe. That is the clever bit, and it is still foam: heat builds, roll is slow, edges are not a bench. Sarah Mitchell, 62kg / 9st 11lb on her side, wanted to stay in the hug. David Patel, 104kg / 16st 5lb on his back, wanted out. Both were telling the truth about the same density map. The 42kg between them is the whole argument on all-foam: there is no spring stop, so extra mass is extra crater.

Eve still hangs a Which? Best Buy banner on the live page. That is supporting evidence that this foam has been in the UK conversation for years. It is not a substitute for a week in your own bedroom. Use the 200-night trial like an adult, not a Friday lie-in after a Bensons demo.
Bottom line: lighter side sleeper, small-double frame, you already know you want foam. Hot sleeper, 104kg back, or anyone who wants bounce — look at Original Hybrid. If you only needed a cheap guest bed, this is the wrong brand ladder; start on Emma Original Lite.

The foam hug — and why it is not hybrid bounce
The clever bit is the pairing. EveComfort is open-cell, so it does not glue you in the way closed-cell memory did a decade ago. The memory layer on top is thinner, so you get a hug without the slow-motion swamp. You still sink on a delay. You still roll like you are turning in dough. You still build heat because there is no air gap around steel. That is the contract. If you want the Eve name with a push-back, you are shopping Original Hybrid — foam over 12cm pocket springs, 25cm, bounce under the hug.
On all-foam the 42kg between Sarah Mitchell at 62kg / 9st 11lb and David Patel at 104kg / 16st 5lb is not a rounding error. A hybrid has a spring floor: extra mass compresses foam, then steel says stop. Original has no steel. Extra mass is extra crater. Sarah’s shoulder often likes that extra give. - It is still foam, so it sleeps warm. EveComfort is open-cell. The memory pad is thinner than a 2014 slab. That is the clever bit. It is not a cooling mattress. Heat is Emma Thompson’s veto at 71kg / 11st 2lb: she liked the shoulder in Brighton and still opened a sash at 1am. James, 86kg / 13st 8lb, already sleeps hot and would not keep it through a still UK week with a 13.5 tog. If heat is your complaint on every foam you have owned, stop shopping all-foam Eves and open Original Hybrid.
- Heavier backs sink. The 7-zone denser base is a real map. It is still foam under foam. David Patel at 104kg / 16st 5lb had hips too far in on his back. That is not a broken zone. What is inside: three foam layers
Eve’s badge on the live shop is a 3-layer all-foam mattress. The layer tour then also names the cover and the anti-slip base, which is a counting quirk, not a secret fourth foam. There are no pocket springs. The “zones” are density changes in the support slab. If a retailer listing pastes Hybrid copy onto Original, that is leftover copy from another mattress — Eve’s foam page does not claim steel.

Depth is the one figure Eve does not print. Live Hybrid pages do print 25cm. Live Premium foam prints 28cm. Original sits in the shorter foam class — about 20cm in the hand, after expansion, on a normal base. If your bunk has a hard cap, measure the expanded mattress. Ignore any listing quoting 18cm or 22cm — that is not on Eve’s live page.
Firmness: medium-firm depends who sits down
Eve prints medium-firm. For Sarah Mitchell at 62kg / 9st 11lb on her side, that was a hug that still had a floor. For David Patel at 104kg / 16st 5lb on his back, the floor arrived late — 42kg more, no spring stop, extra crater. I landed at about 6/10 as a combination sleeper at 86kg / 13st 8lb who is not David’s weight — more give than a thin hybrid, slower than Original Hybrid, not a marshmallow if you are light.
Ten minutes in a Bensons aisle will feel firmer than night four in a warm flat. Foam softens as it warms to you. That is why Emma Thompson’s 1am sash in Brighton and Sarah’s morning hug can both be true. Use the shop to reject bounce you hate. Use the trial to live with the density map.

This brand does not print a useful per-side kilogram limit on the product page we used. Treat David’s 104kg week as a comfort signal, not a lab certificate, and use the home trial if you are in his weight class.
Sarah and David are 42kg apart. On all-foam that is not a small disagreement: she gets the hug at 62kg; he gets the crater at 104kg. There is no spring stop, so extra mass is extra sink. Unboxing and the first week
Original arrives vacuum-rolled in an Eve / Bensons box. All-foam of this class is lighter than a 28cm hybrid of the same footprint, and still awkward on a narrow stair. A single can be a one-person lift. Double and up want two people. Cut the wrap on the bed base. Give it 24–72 hours before you decide the hug is wrong — the first night on a half-expanded foam mattress is a useless test. Open a window for the new-foam smell.
There are no coils to tick. Wait until it is roughly full height before fighting fitted sheets. Because Eve does not print centimetres, wait, then measure if your bunk is fussy.
Bed base and sheets
Foam wants slats that are not a hammock. Keep gaps around 7cm or less — the same rule every UK boxed brand repeats, because a wide gap lets the 7-zone base sag between bars and will not help the 10-year paperwork. A solid platform or a decent divan is fine. A tired sprung base will make Original feel like a cheaper foam than it is. Floor use is a last resort for a week, not a five-year plan.
Sheets: treat it as about 20cm class. Ordinary 25cm fitted sheets usually stay on after expansion. Extra-deep 35cm pockets — mandatory on Eve’s 28cm Premium foam if you stack a protector — are optional here. That is useful in a spare room with a linen cupboard of standard sheets. Add a protector for the trial; do not glue it down.
UK buying details: trial, warranty, delivery
200-night trial
On Eve-direct orders: collection arranged, refund through their flow. Starts on delivery. Give foam more than a long weekend. Third-party and some in-store Bensons tickets can differ — ask.
10-year warranty
Defects in the foam layers under normal use. Ordinary softening and body impressions from skipped rotation are not defects.
Delivery
Free to most UK mainland addresses, typically a few working days, rolled in a box via the Bensons network. Old mattress removal is extra — check the live checkout, not a blog from 2024.
Finance / discounts
Eve auto-applies basket discounts, often around 45% over a spend threshold that moves. Do not pay the unreduced from-price if the basket will cut it. Finance is subject to status.
You can often lie on an Original in a Bensons for Beds shop. That is the ownership advantage Emma and Simba do not match as cleanly. Ten minutes still will not show Emma Thompson’s 1am sash at 71kg, or David Patel’s hip sink at 104kg. Buy from Eve if you want Eve’s 200 nights in writing.

Eve advertised Original from £599 including VAT when we checked. That is the from-price on the live foam page; Eve does not publish a size-by-size RRP. Eve auto-applies basket discounts — often around 45% once you clear a spend threshold — so the number in the hero tile and the number at checkout are frequently different people. I would buy this for a lighter side sleeper who already knows they want foam — Sarah Mitchell at 62kg / 9st 11lb is the case — on Eve’s own trial, preferably after the basket has knocked the from-price about. I would not buy it because the old Lighter 404s and this is “the cheap Eve.” It is not. I would not buy it for David Patel at 104kg / 16st 5lb: all-foam has no spring stop, so that extra 42kg versus Sarah is extra crater. I would not choose it for a still UK week if I already slept hot — heat is Emma Thompson’s veto at 71kg / 11st 2lb. The hug is the product. The heat and the slow roll are the product too. Guests for a weekend will not complain. That is Rachel Adams at 68kg / 10st 10lb, not Sarah’s every night, and not a reason to skip Hybrid if you wanted bounce.
