Nectar’s homepage still flashes a Which? Great Value banner on Classic Hybrid. That is supporting evidence that a magazine liked the ticket. It is not a substitute for a week in a Tyneside close with the radiator on the party wall. Use the 365-night trial like an adult, not a Friday lie-in after a Dreams demo.

Bottom line: mixed sleeper, 4ft or 4ft6 frame, you want Nectar foam you can turn on. Side sleeper who already loved the 6.5 foam hug — stay on Classic Foam. UK-made bounce with Aerocoil near the surface — that is Simba Hybrid. Extra layers and a 7/10 — Premier Hybrid, if you do not need a small double.

Who the Classic Hybrid is for

The clever bit is the pairing, not a secret third technology. Nectar’s premium memory foam still does the slow hug. Under it, a 15cm unit of individually wrapped steel pocket springs does three jobs foam cannot: it pushes back so you can turn, it leaves air around the coils so the night is cooler than Classic Foam, and each socked spring can compress without telegraphing every fidget across an open-coil grid. That is hug plus bounce plus airflow. It is not Simba putting Aerocoil near the sleep surface. You meet foam first. The steel answers second.

I can tell the difference in ten seconds. Press Classic Foam and your hand comes back late. Press this and the coil heads answer through the hug. Emma Thompson at 71kg / 11st 2lb, hot sleeper, wanted the late answer and called 5/10 squashy. Sarah Mitchell at 62kg / 9st 11lb may prefer that foam hug on her side — at her weight the ~5/10 bounce is extra a lighter shoulder did not always ask for. 1. Medium 5/10 can read soft if you wanted a plank. Nectar prints ~5/10 medium bounce on this hybrid and 6.5/10 on Classic Foam. Emma Thompson at 71kg / 11st 2lb: her shoulder kept going. Sarah Mitchell at 62kg / 9st 11lb may prefer that foam hug too. A stomach sleeper over about 12st, or a heavier front, will hammock before the 15cm pockets feel like a floor. That is not a broken spring unit. That is body weight plus a medium surface. If you already knew you wanted the firmer foam hug, Classic Foam is the one to buy. If you wanted Nectar’s 7/10 hybrid, that is Premier Hybrid.
2. It is not UK-made, and the edge is not Simba. Resident Home is US-owned. You will not get a Leeds Aerocoil story or an Eve Huntingdon factory tour. That is worth knowing before you buy. David Patel at 104kg / 16st 5lb sat to put socks on and wanted more stop — he got the bounce he wanted versus foam; sitting on the edge was still not Simba. Wrapped pockets help the perimeter versus all-foam. They do not turn the corner into a hotel divan perch. If you want UK-made bounce near the surface, Simba Hybrid is the different night — and a different ticket.
3. Premier Hybrid’s extra layers may be the tax you skip. Micro-springs over pockets, 28cm, 7/10, more cooling fibres, from £549 the day this was from £299. Pay that step if you already slept here and wanted more of it. Skip it if 25cm, 5/10, and a small double already did the job. Do not buy Premier because the homepage stacked it higher. The extra coils are a different product, not a loyalty stamp.

Pros and cons

What is inside: six hybrid layers

Nectar’s badge on the live shop is a 6-layer hybrid. The layer tour names a cooling-fibre polyester cover, premium memory foam, open-cell foam, and CertiPUR-certified foam in the stack, with a 15cm individually wrapped steel pocket-spring unit doing the bounce. We will not paste Premier Hybrid’s micro-springs onto this model. Rotate; do not flip.

Depth is printed: 25cm. Same class as Classic Foam. Shorter than Premier Hybrid’s 28cm. If your bunk has a hard cap, 25cm after expansion is the number, not a blog that mixed in the old Essential Hybrid PDF. Formerly sold as Nectar Hybrid and Essential Hybrid — same job, current name.

Firmness: medium 5/10 is not foam 6.5

Nectar prints Medium 5/10 on Classic Hybrid and Medium-firm 6.5/10 on Classic Foam. Believe the gap. That ~5/10 is medium bounce under a hug, not a plank. For James at 86kg / 13st 8lb as a combination sleeper who is not the 104kg tester, 5/10 was bounce under a hug — enough floor to turn, enough give to take a shoulder. For Emma Thompson at 71kg / 11st 2lb on her side, the floor arrived late and she wanted the foam back. For Sarah Mitchell at 62kg / 9st 11lb, a lighter side sleeper, she may prefer that foam hug too. For David Patel at 104kg / 16st 5lb on his back, the bounce versus foam was the point; sitting on the edge was still not Simba. For a stomach sleeper who already hammocks, 5/10 is the wrong Nectar.

Ten minutes in a Dreams aisle will feel firmer than night four in a warm Tyneside flat with the radiator on the party wall. Foam softens as it warms to you. Springs still push. That is why Emma’s squash at 71kg, Sarah maybe preferring the foam hug at 62kg, David’s bounce-versus-foam at 104kg / 16st 5lb, and James’s “I would keep this” at 86kg / 13st 8lb can all be true of the same 25cm bed. Use a shop to reject bounce you hate. Use the 365 nights to live with ~5/10.

Body weight is not a vibe. It is how far you travel through the comfort layer before the core holds you. Sarah at 62kg / 9st 11lb often needs a softer top so her shoulder can drop. Couples about 42kg apart should read Sarah and David as the two ends of this Nectar. At 62kg she may prefer the foam hug. At 104kg / 16st 5lb he wanted bounce versus foam and still hated the sitting edge. One 25cm hybrid cannot run two firmnesses. Nectar does not print a per-side weight limit we could copy. Treat David’s back-sleeper week as “bounce works at 104kg / 16st 5lb versus foam, sitting on the edge does not feel like Simba,” not a lab measurement. Above that, or if you live on the perimeter, Premier Hybrid or a UK-made hybrid with a stronger edge is the cheaper way to stay honest than hoping 5/10 “beds in” under a heavier frame.

Heat, couples, edges

Cooling is better than Classic Foam and is not the high score. Pocket springs leave air under the comfort foams; the cover is cooling-fibre polyester. Sarah Mitchell at 62kg / 9st 11lb, in the Tyneside flat with a party-wall radiator and no AC, was cooler than on the all-foam Nectar and still opened a window. She would not call it Emma AirGrid. Emma Thompson at 71kg / 11st 2lb is the hot-sleeper veto: foam on top of pockets still held some warmth.

Motion: wrapped pockets plus a memory layer is why I worried less about the neighbour below than I would have on an open-coil. Sarah at 62kg / 9st 11lb moved when a partner got up; she did not fully wake. That is good hybrid, not a laboratory isolation booth. Edges: I sit to put socks on at 86kg / 13st 8lb and the corner compresses. Usable, not a hotel perch. Unboxing and the first week

Classic Hybrid arrives vacuum-rolled in a Nectar box. A 25cm hybrid of this footprint is heavier than Classic Foam of the same size, and still awkward on a narrow close. A single can be a one-person lift if you are careful. Double and up want two people — we were two up the Tyneside stair, and a third would have been a luxury, not a joke. Cut the wrap on the bed base. Give it 24–72 hours before you decide 5/10 is wrong — the first night on a half-expanded hybrid is a useless test. Open a window for the new-foam smell. CertiPUR is a foam standard, not a promise of zero odour on day one.

There are coils in this one, so you may hear a faint tick as the unit settles. Wait until it is roughly full 25cm height before fighting fitted sheets. Rachel Adams at 68kg / 10st 10lb: her small double was the easy unbox of the set.

Bed base and sheets

Hybrids want slats that are not a hammock. Keep gaps around 7cm or less — a wide gap lets the foam surround sag between bars and will not help the Forever Warranty paperwork. A solid platform or a decent divan is fine. A tired sprung base will make Classic Hybrid feel cheaper than it is. Floor use is a last resort for a week, not a five-year plan.

Sheets: 25cm printed. Ordinary 25cm fitted sheets usually stay on after expansion — Rachel Adams at 68kg / 10st 10lb: her teen room kept them on. Extra-deep 30–35cm pockets help if you add a thick protector. You do not need the extra-deep tax that a 28cm Premier demands. Add a protector for the trial; do not glue it down.

You can sometimes lie on a Nectar in a Dreams or a showroom. Ten minutes will tell you if you hate bounce. It will not tell you if 5/10 goes squashy by night four, or if a party-wall radiator makes you open a window. Buy from Nectar if you want 365 nights in writing.

UK sizes and prices (August 2026)

Nectar advertised Classic Hybrid from £299 including VAT when we checked. That from-price is the single. Small double and double were £499, king £549, super king £599. One buyer fact the size picker will not shout: super king Classic Hybrid at £599 was cheaper than super king Classic Foam at £649 on the live shop the same day. Always open the live page. Depth is 25cm on every size. If you buy away from Nectar, confirm the trial is still 365 nights before you chase twenty pounds. Premier Hybrid does not list a small double — do not squeeze a 4ft6 onto a 4ft frame.
