The clever bit is two feels. The cost is the zip.

Most “flippable” UK mattresses ask you to turn the whole slab. You sleep on a thinner comfort layer, then you sleep on a firmer face that was the underside. Eve split the job. The 50mm open-cell foam stays the thing you lie on. The spring core is the thing with two personalities. Unzip. Flip the core. Zip the comfort back on. Stitched labels on the sides tell you which face is up. That is the part genuinely worth explaining.

The honest cost is not a diagram. It is two people, a stripped king, and a core that does not care that the house is a bungalow with no stairs. I did it once, around 11pm, because that is when you decide the first week felt wrong. The zip is a screaming yellow. You cannot miss it. You also cannot run it politely on your own without folding the unit into a banana.

Premium Hybrid already exists if you already know your firmness. Same height band, fewer moving parts, from £1049 the day we checked. Wunderflip Premium is the mattress you buy because the argument in the bedroom is real — including Sarah at 62kg / 9st 11lb next to David at 104kg / 16st 5lb — and because you will spend one evening settling it. Nights from a Norwich bungalow

Back bedroom, king, window onto a small garden, 1960s bungalow, no AC, UK duvet. Delivery did not involve a terrace stair. The flip still did. Not a lab. That is the point. The case against the Wunderflip Premium Hybrid

We give it 4.3/5. The missing points are not rounding errors.

1. The faff is the product. Two people, bedding off, a yellow zip, a core that is heavy even in a bungalow with no stairs. James at 86kg / 13st 8lb did it once at 11pm. Rachel at 68kg / 10st 10lb used the feature twice. If you pictured a weekly flip, you pictured a different object. The clever bit only works if you will spend an evening on it.
2. Premium Hybrid already exists. Same 28cm height band. Live from-price here is £549 on 2 September 2026 (50% off RRP £1099); Premium Hybrid was from £1049 when we last logged it. The RRP gap was fifty pounds — a takeaway, not a second bed. David at 104kg / 16st 5lb slept on the firmer face and still said: if you know you like medium-firm, buy the mattress that does not unzip. He is the heavy tester, not James.
3. No UK single. Double, king, super king. That is the list. A 90cm room, a cabin, a kid’s bed — this model is the wrong click. Original Hybrid still lists a single. Do not order this hoping Eve hid a 3ft option behind the size dropdown.
4. Eve’s product copy still still mentions “lighter hybrid.” That is not this mattress. The old Lighter foam is discontinued. The old Wunderflip Hybrid is not a current new mattress. Go by the product URL and the 28cm zip-off specification. A stray phrase on Eve’s site is leftover copy, not a second mattress you are secretly buying.
5. The zip is not two mattresses in one night. Sarah at 62kg / 9st 11lb and David at 104kg / 16st 5lb are 42kg apart. She wanted plusher. He wanted firmer. They still share one king. One face at a time. If that couple will not unzip, this model is a gadget they never use.

Pros and cons

How to unzip, flip, and zip it back

Plain English, the way we did it in Norwich. Budget twenty minutes the first time, a helper, and a clear floor beside the bed. Do not start this at 11pm unless someone else is awake and willing. The zip is yellow on purpose.

1. Strip the bed completely. Fitted sheet, protector, toppers — all off. You need the zip free around the sides.
2. Find the yellow zip. Run it the whole way round so the quilted comfort layer — cover plus the 50mm open-cell foam — comes away as one piece. Fold that layer onto a clean sheet on the floor, foam-side up if you can, so it does not pick up dust.
3. Read the stitched labels on the core. One face is the softer feel, the other is firmer. Decide which label you want pointing up toward the foam when you put it back.
4. Get a helper. Flip the spring core. It is the heavy bit. Two people, one at each end, turn it like a mattress, not like a pancake you flip with one wrist. Do not fold it in half against the headboard.
5. Check the label. The face you want should now be on top. Square the core on the base so it is not hanging off a slat.
6. Lift the comfort layer back on. Start the yellow zip at the tag and run it closed so the foam sits even. If a corner of foam is pinched in the zip, stop and free it — do not force the slider.
7. Remake the bed. Give it a night before you decide the new face is “wrong.” First hour on a freshly zipped layer is not the trial.

That is the whole trick. It is not a remote control. James did it once properly, then left the core where Sarah wanted it. If those seven steps already feel like a reason not to buy, they are. Buy Premium Hybrid.

What is inside

Eve’s live tour for this model is a zip-off comfort layer over a dual-tension hybrid core. It does not carry the extra graphite layers from the Premium Hybrid. This is the stack we actually slept on, top to bottom, as Eve describes it and as the unzip showed.

Open-cell foam with drill holes is airflow, not an AirGrid polymer honeycomb and not latex. Ultimate adds latex and 3cm. This Premium does not. If you wanted the Premium Hybrid Floatfoam-and-graphite hug, that is a different model with a different stack and no zip-off core.

Firmness: two numbers, one zip

Eve sells this as medium or firmer, depending which labelled face is up. In the bungalow we landed around 5.5/10 on the plusher face (Sarah at 62kg / 9st 11lb) and closer to 7/10 on the firmer one (David at 104kg / 16st 5lb) — cushion then a springy stop, not a marshmallow, not a plank. Those are bedroom numbers, not a lab indent. If a shop “medium-firm” usually means a hotel hybrid with little give, the plusher face will feel kinder. If you already sleep on Premium Hybrid and liked it, the firmer face will feel familiar, which is David’s argument for not paying the zip. James at 86kg / 13st 8lb sat between them and left the core on Sarah’s face.

The 1,000 coils are also softer toward one end of a face and firmer toward the other in Eve’s dual-tension story — head-to-toe zoning on top of the flip. Use the stitched labels. Do not assume “flip” means the whole mattress turns like a pancake and the foot becomes the head. Square the labels with the headboard before you zip the foam back on.

Sleep positions and body weight

We did not get a printed per-side kilogram limit on Eve’s Wunderflip Premium page the way some hybrids shout 130kg. David at 104kg / 16st 5lb was fine on the firmer face. That is one back sleeper in one bungalow, not a weight-class promise. If you live on the last ten centimetres of the bed, edges are still the weak bit of this design. Use the 200 nights.

Match the kilogram figure, not the word Wunderflip

Body weight is not a vibe. It is how far you travel through the comfort layer before the core holds you. Sarah at 62kg / 9st 11lb often needs a softer top so her shoulder can drop. David at 104kg / 16st 5lb often needs that same top to stop sooner, or his hips make a hammock. James at 86kg / 13st 8lb sits between them — useful as a typical UK male, useless as a stand-in for a 104kg back sleeper. Heat, couples, unbox, sheets

Open-cell foam with drill zones moves more air than a sealed memory-foam brick. It is not a polymer grid. I still ran warm in a bungalow that held yesterday’s sun at 86kg / 13st 8lb. Emma Thompson at 71kg / 11st 2lb still slept like a hot sleeper. A 13.5 tog in a closed room is a duvet problem. We did not tape thermometers into the foam. Motion: better than a cheap Bonnell, not silent all-foam — see our couples guide. Edges compress; David at 104kg / 16st 5lb called the sit usable, not a Hypnos. The zip does not give you a split king. You pick one face for the whole bed. A 42kg couple — Sarah at 62kg / 9st 11lb on the plusher face, David on the firmer — still share that one face until two people unzip.

Boxed via Bensons. No stairs in a bungalow; a king is still a two-person lift. Cut the wrap on the base. Unbox within Eve’s window (they talk about four weeks). Give it 24–72 hours to reach 28cm before you judge firmness or fit sheets. New-foam smell for a few days; open a window. Sleep on the face it landed on for a week, then flip once if it is wrong. Three flips in five nights is how you decide you hate the product.

Slats no more than 7cm apart and at least 3cm wide. Solid platform or divan: fine. 28cm plus a protector needs extra-deep sheets — 35cm pocket as a start, 40cm if the protector is thick. Do not glue a protector down; you will need it off to unzip.

• Rotate head-to-toe on a schedule. Flip the core only when you want the other firmness, not as weekly “care.”
• Wash the quilted cover on Eve’s care line. That is Emma Thompson’s hygiene, beside Eve’s Purotex+ claim.
• Do not steam the foams or fold the core against a radiator.

Wunderflip Premium vs Premium Hybrid, Ultimate, Original Hybrid

Premium Hybrid is the default 28cm Eve if the feel is already decided. Original Hybrid is cheaper, 25cm, and has a single. Ultimate is latex and 31cm on the same unzip — extra-deep sheets become a tax. This Premium is the zip. Do not collect all four because the range looks like a ladder.
