Emma vs Silentnight UK 2026 — buy Emma unless you need a shop floor

We slept on the Emma Original (4.4/5, from £349, 200 nights). Silentnight’s current headline mattresses — UltraGel Cool-to-touch 3000, Lift Replenish Hybrid 2000, Premier Inn 2.0 — we have not slept on. Shorter trial. More money.

The only mattress here we have slept on, from £349 with 200 nights to send it back — against 60 nights and a £789 ticket on the UltraGel. Buy Silentnight instead if you want to lie on a high-street sprung bed first.

    Head-to-head: Original vs UltraGel

This is the search. Emma’s seller versus Silentnight’s current cooling 3000. It is not a price match. That is the point.

I used to QC Silentnight. Buy the Emma.

I spent ten years in Silentnight quality control. I know how Mirapocket units are supposed to sit. I also slept on the current Emma Original in a north-facing spare room with no AC. For a typical UK household replacing one bed, Original is the buy. Sale price. Two hundred nights. A 25cm hybrid you can actually turn on.

Silentnight’s live cooling hero is now UltraGel Cool-to-touch 3000, from £789, 37cm, Soft or Firm. That is a proper deep sprung pillowtop on paper. I have not taken it home. Neither has Sarah, David, Emma or Rachel. So there is no night score from us on it.

If you want Silentnight, buy it because you can lie on it in a shop — that is still the brand’s advantage — or because you already decided on Premier Inn 2.0 or Lift. Do not buy it because an old Geltex Ultra badge is still in a Google snippet.

    Who slept on what

James Wright, Sarah Mitchell, David Patel, Emma Thompson, Rachel Adams. Kilograms locked. Emma Original has nights. Silentnight does not. That is the honest split — not a fake panel.

Cost of being wrong: on Emma you have months. On Silentnight you have two. UltraGel at £789 over 60 nights is about £13 a night of trial risk. Original at £349 over 200 nights is about £1.75. That is the rank.

    When Silentnight still wins

    • You refuse to buy a bed you have not sat on. Silentnight is in hundreds of UK stores. Emma is a box. That is a real preference, not nostalgia.
    • You want a 37cm traditional pillowtop. UltraGel Cool-to-touch 3000 is the current cooling hero. Extra-deep sheets. Made to order. Untested here — open the spec review then the product page.
    • You slept in a Premier Inn and want that mattress. Buy Premier Inn 2.0 from the official Hotel to Home shop. Do not buy Emma hoping it feels like a hotel pillowtop.
    • You want latex over 2,000 Mirapocket springs. Lift Replenish Hybrid 2000 is the Silentnight hybrid. Still untested. Still a shorter trial than Emma.
