Nicer than Pro if you wanted more sink. That is the whole honest case — and it is Sarah Mitchell’s 62kg / 9st 11lb side-sleep case, not David Patel’s 104kg / 16st 5lb back-sleep case. Side sleepers who found Pro a bit tight at the shoulder are the sleeper this model is built for. We score it 4.3/5 — not Pro’s 4.5 — because you pay a lot for 3cm, extra-deep sheets become a household tax, a typical UK frame or ottoman was not designed around 31cm, and the extra plush that pockets 62kg can hammock 104kg.

Comfort is the high score — Sarah’s shoulders. Support is only mid: plush means more give, not a firmer lumbar story than Pro, and David’s 104kg hips pulled that mark. Value is the puncture. From £1,249 versus Pro from £899 is about £350. Rachel Adams, 68kg / 10st 10lb, who looks at beds like a physio, could not feel those extra nights. I agree with her on money and with Sarah on shoulders. They are answering different questions. I am 86kg / 13st 8lb — between them, which is why my liked-the-sink night is the household average and not the last word.

Bottom line: you already liked Pro and still wanted a deeper cushion, and you have measured the lid and the headboard. Everyone else — start on Hybrid Pro or the Hybrid. If you are already spending flagship money, look at Ultra before you stop at Luxe by accident.

Who the Hybrid Luxe is for

The third spring layer is a plush tax

Simba’s clever bit on every Hybrid is the Aerocoil: a short titanium microspring that compresses inwards, so your partner’s turn stays on their side. Pro already gives you two of those layers and a Hampshire wool pad. Luxe adds a third microspring layer (Simba’s tour says up to 900 extra high-carbon coils) and mixes bamboo into the wool. That is not a new idea, just more of the same one, taller.

Height is the thing you feel before you feel “luxury.” 28cm Pro to 31cm Luxe is 3cm you will notice on a fitted sheet, an ottoman lid, and the gap under a headboard. You may also notice a slower, deeper shoulder drop — Sarah at 62kg / 9st 11lb did. David at 104kg / 16st 5lb noticed the same extra centimetres as more travel through bamboo/wool, Simbatex foam and the third microspring layer before SupportCore said stop. You may not notice £350. If Pro already felt plush, you are paying for the word Luxe and a stack that looks impressive in a cutaway diagram.

Emma’s Elite cheats heat with an AirGrid polymer honeycomb — empty space that buckles instead of foam that stews. Luxe cheats comfort with more Simba springs. Different trick. Do not buy Luxe because you wanted Elite’s cooling story in a Simba box. Do not buy it because nine layers sounds like eleven. Ultra exists if you are already spending flagship money; Hybrid exists if you have not earned this step yet.

Four nights from a Croydon flat

One-bed, gas-lift ottoman, no AC, UK duvet, the kind of room that holds yesterday’s heat. Not a lab. That is the point. The ottoman lid is still the first night — 31cm does not care how much you weigh if the lid will not close.

Who slept on it (including the ones who walked)

Five named nights, not a composite “panel.” James Wright is the lead at 86kg / 13st 8lb — hot, back-to-side — and he is not the heavy tester. The case against the Hybrid Luxe

We give it 4.3/5. The missing points are not rounding errors.

1. The sheet tax is real. 31cm plus a protector is not a 25cm hotel sheet job. James’s extra-deep set pinged until he bought 40cm pockets. That is money, laundry, and a linen cupboard you did not budget. If you will not replace the sheets, do not buy the mattress.
2. Pro already has wool and dual springs — and 104kg may not want more plush. The Luxe extras are a third microspring layer, bamboo in the mix, and 3cm. Rachel Adams (68kg / 10st 10lb) could not feel £350 of nights. If Pro already felt plush, you are paying for height and marketing. If you are David’s 104kg / 16st 5lb, those extra comfort layers are more travel before SupportCore says stop — gift at Sarah’s 62kg, hammock at 104kg. That is the review in two sentences.
3. Ultra exists — do not stop at Luxe by accident, and do not climb by default. If you are already spending flagship money because you want the tallest Simba, Ultra is 34cm and another £500. If 31cm already wrecked the ottoman or the headboard gap, 34cm is not a fix. Pick the height on purpose. Do not collect layers because the range looks like a ladder. Stomach sleepers: wrong direction at any height.

How we scored it

Weighting follows our published method: comfort and support first, then cooling, motion, edges, durability and value. Comfort is the high mark — Sarah at 62kg / 9st 11lb. Support is mid because it is built to be plush, and David’s 104kg / 16st 5lb hips over-sank. Value is where Luxe loses to Pro. Edge support at 86/100 is still a usable Simba sit at James’s 86kg; David sitting at 104kg is the harder morning, not a number off a spec sheet.

What is inside: nine layers, 31cm

Simba’s badge is 9 layers | 31cm | up to 5,700 springs. Their tour slots optional HeatRelease graphite strips as step three — out of stock when we checked, not in the mattress we scored. Without that gadget, the extra versus Pro is still bamboo in the wool, a third microspring layer, and 3cm of height.

Spring maths: two Aerocoil layers up to 3,800, plus about 900 in the third layer, plus up to 1,000 SupportCore barrels, is “up to 5,700.” Pro stops at dual Aerocoil (up to 4,800). Those extra ~900 coils are the plush tax. They are also the 42kg argument: Sarah at 62kg stops in the extra comfort layers; David at 104kg travels further through them. Gift. Hammock. Same stack.

Firmness: they printed two words because one would not do

Simba prints medium-firm / plush. That slash is the product. You get a hugged, slower first contact than the 25cm Hybrid, then the triple microspring stack and SupportCore still push back. I landed at about 5.5–6/10. Not a dead-foam crater. Not the hotel-bounce Hybrid. Softer than Pro, which is the point of paying.

If a shop “medium-firm” means you barely leave a handprint, this will feel plusher than the label. If Pro already felt cushioned, Luxe is Pro with more depth, not a new species. Stomach sleepers: wrong direction at any weight. Combination sleepers (me, 86kg / 13st 8lb) can live here — the springs still let you turn. A 104kg / 16st 5lb back sleeper who wanted a firmer stop should not trust the “medium-firm” half of the slash.

Sleep positions and body weight

Simba does not print a helpful per-side kilogram limit on the Luxe page. Treat a very heavy sleeper as a trial question, not a brochure promise. Couples with a large weight gap should use the 200 nights rather than assume three spring layers erase a two-stone difference. Sarah at 62kg / 9st 11lb and David at 104kg / 16st 5lb are 42kg apart on this mattress; extra comfort layers made that gap louder, not quieter.

Body weight is not a vibe. It is how far you travel through the comfort layer before the core holds you. Sarah at 62kg / 9st 11lb often needs a softer top so her shoulder can drop. David at 104kg / 16st 5lb often needs that same top to stop sooner, or his hips make a hammock. James at 86kg / 13st 8lb sits between them — useful as a typical UK male, useless as a stand-in for a 104kg back sleeper. If you are shopping this Simba Hybrid Luxe because a review said “medium-firm,” match the kilogram figure nearest yours, not the brand icon.

This brand does not print a useful per-side kilogram limit on the product page we used. Treat David’s 104kg week as a comfort signal, not a lab certificate, and use the home trial if you are in his weight class.

Sarah at 62kg and David at 104kg are 42kg apart. On Luxe that is not a taste disagreement — it is extra comfort layers doing more work under more mass. The lighter partner gets the hug; the heavier partner gets the hammock, and still has to clear the same 31cm ottoman lid. One mattress cannot run two firmnesses. Cooling, couples, edges

Emma Thompson’s night is the useful cooling note: she is 71kg / 11st 2lb, hot, side-dominant. Bamboo in wool is a moisture story, extra microsprings are airflow, graphite in Simbatex is conduction. None of that is AirGrid. In a warm Croydon room with a 13.5 tog it slept like a hybrid that is not cheap memory foam — a real win, not a new season. Skip HeatRelease until Simba ships it on the model you buy. Motion isolation is the couples argument; I barely noticed a partner get up. SupportCore still lets James at 86kg sit for socks; David at 104kg / 16st 5lb sitting on the last ten centimetres is the harder morning, and his hammock night is the weight argument, not the edge argument. Buy from Simba if you want Simba’s 200 nights; John Lewis is a lie-down, not automatically the same trial.

Unboxing, first week, care

Luxe arrives vacuum-rolled in a box that still fits most UK stairwells. It is not a one-person job once you leave single behind. Cut the wrap on the base, not on a carpet you then have to drag a 31cm slab across. Unbox within Simba’s window or you risk the guarantee.

Give it 24–72 hours to reach full height before you decide it is “too soft,” “too hot,” or “too tall for the lid.” An ottoman measurement at hour two is a lie. A new-foam smell is normal for a day or two; open a window. We did not sleep on it the afternoon we cut the plastic.

• Rotate monthly for six months, then every three months. Do not flip — it is single-sided.
• Zip the Stratos cover off and wash as Simba directs. Do not steam-clean wool, bamboo, foam or coils.
• A protector is cheap insurance and extra height. Budget sheets for mattress plus protector, not 31cm alone.

Springs were quiet after expansion. If you hear a tick, it is usually the cover, a slat, or the ottoman — not a failed Aerocoil. Wait until it is roughly full height before fighting extra-deep sheets onto the corners. A third Aerocoil layer does not make the first two immortal; the 10-year guarantee covers faults, not “I can feel it more than in month one.”

31cm sheets: the household tax nobody puts on the tile

This is the practical section. Depth is 31cm before you add anything. A mattress protector is sensible during a 200-night trial and Simba would like you to use one for the 10-year paperwork. Protector plus 31cm is why standard 25cm hotel fitted sheets fail. They ping. They leave a naked corner. They make you think the mattress is defective. It is not. Your sheets are short.

James’s extra-deep set — the kind that had been fine on a 25–28cm hybrid — pinged until he bought 40cm pockets. 35cm “extra-deep” can still come up short once a quilted protector is on. Measure after 24 hours of expansion. Buy pockets that clear mattress plus protector, not the number on Simba’s spec table. That is a real cost on top of £1,249. Budget for it or do not buy the bed.

Ottoman and frame: the same 31cm is a lid problem and a headboard problem. James’s Croydon gas-lift closed, just. Measure the gap from slats to the underside of the closed lid and leave a little air. David’s existing frame had a headboard gap cut for a thinner mattress. “I was buying a mattress and accidentally a bedroom renovation.” That furniture line still stands — and at 104kg / 16st 5lb his hips had already over-sunk before the lid argument. If your cabin bed, ottoman or headboard was happy at 25cm, Luxe is not a free upgrade. It is a measuring tape.

Base: a sound slatted platform, a decent divan, or an ottoman with enough clearance. Wide slat gaps on a 31cm hybrid are how you create sag. A tired sprung base will make the plush top feel sloppy. Do not glue a protector down. A protector does not void a fair trial if it is removable and the mattress stays clean.

UK buying details: trial, warranty, delivery

Simba still has a useful high-street lie-down at partners such as John Lewis. Use it to check the plush, not to skip the home trial. Partner trials can differ. The 200-night promise is a Simba-direct benefit until you have it in writing elsewhere.

UK sizes and prices (August 2026)

Simba advertised the Hybrid Luxe from £1,249 including VAT on a single when we checked. A king was showing £1,899 on Simba’s own product page the same day, tagged as an overstock ticket — a snapshot, not a promise. Super king and EU queen cost more. Simba also runs sales and a community-hero price for some buyers. Prices move. Open the live page before you budget.

Buy Hybrid if you have not earned a step-up. Buy Pro if you want wool and dual springs without a sheet crisis — or if you are David’s 104kg / 16st 5lb and wanted a firmer stop. Buy Luxe only if Pro still felt tight at the shoulder (Sarah’s case at 62kg) and you have measured the furniture. Buy Ultra only if you deliberately want 34cm — not because you walked past Luxe on the way to a bigger word. Stomach sleepers skip Luxe.

Luxe vs Emma Original Elite (cooling-hybrid rival)

Elite’s trick is AirGrid: a polymer honeycomb that buckles instead of squashing shut. Luxe’s trick is more Simba springs plus bamboo/wool.
